Ben Hucker

Hi there, You're a busy person... You need to get that prose onto paper but you're staring at a blank canvas. You don't know how to put it all into words. Or you just don't have the time or resources right now. That's exactly where I can help... I’m Ben Hucker, a financial markets guy turned freelance copywriter with a knack for helping companies write more engaging marketing content. For 10 years I worked for some big banks and fund managers and struggled with the monotony of being tied to a desk. Over time, I became more and more interested in being a professional writer and became less and less excited about working for an institution. I eventually decided to take the big leap and setup shop as a freelance copywriter in Melbourne, Australia. Now I use my skills and knowledge gained in the corporate world to help a number of companies and organisations write compelling copy. This has translated into less headaches and more clarity for clients in a diverse range of industries across multiple mediums.

Q & A

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

Building the courage to leave my corporate job in funds management and starting my own business as a freelance copywriter.

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

Total chaos, madness and uncertainty. Just the way I like it. Lot's of client meetings, hunting for work, doing actual work. All mixed in with a pretty rigorous fitness regime and lots of coffee.

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

A small office with some windows. Spotify playing endless tunes in the background. The occasional cafe when I'm not stressed.

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

I still have my sanity. I hustle. I like to get 10x results for clients in proportion to what I charge. If my clients aren't getting results then I may as well go back to shuffling papers.

What are the tools of your trade?

Weebly. Google apps. Gmail. Photoshop. Neville Medhora blog. Noah Kagan blog. The Boron Letters. Powerpoint. Google Docs.

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

All sorts. Middlmen. Graphic Designers. Ad Agencies. Marketing Departments. Corporates. Facebook Groups. Startup Events.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

Don't set expectations that can't be achieved and forget about the money. Get results for clients and the money flows.
