Carla Irvine

Hi, I'm Carla. I offer branding strategy, marketing and graphic design services to business owners who want to elevate their brand and connect with the right customers. I have over 10 years experience working in various industries including telecommunications, consumer products, architectural products, real estate, hospitality, franchising and construction services. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Design, Diploma of Marketing and Diploma of Communication Design. I started my career as a Junior Designer at a signage company. Over the years I advanced into Marketing Coordinator / Senior Designer roles and then worked my way up to Management positions. I don't use fluffy words or over complicate things, I believe in simplicity, transparency and getting the job done right. Nothing invigorates me more than working with business owners who are truly passionate about what they are doing and wholeheartedly back their products and/or services.

Q & A

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

Being about to combine my design and marketing skills on a daily basis whilst continuing to develop professionally. I also feel a huge amount of personal satisfaction when a project is completed to a high standard and the client is delighted with the end results.

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

Currently I work part time doing marketing / design for a construction services company and then freelance the remainder. There is never a typical week I can be working on various tasks from website design and updates, writing blog articles, creating advertisements, managing social media, designing new logos or business collateral and creating print and digital content.

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

I live on the beautiful sunny Gold Coast so in my opinion it cant get much better. I have a lovely minimal home office and when I'm not there, you will find me working from a local cafe or nearby the beach.

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

I'm a straight shooter who takes the time to listen to you and research before starting any project. This means I have a clear understanding of your requirements and we can work together more effectively to get tasks completed on schedule and within budget. I always have a plan B and if something cannot be achieved one way there is always another option.

What are the tools of your trade?

Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, WordPress, MailChimp, Google Analytics, strong coffee and a problem solving / roll up the sleeves attitude.

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

Yes, if the project requires additional resources or specific expertise (but majority of the time I work independently). I have collaborated with external marketing agencies, photographers, developers and social media consultants.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

To trust my instincts and be totally transparent with clients. Sometimes they need additional guidance and this can mean having a tough conversation but in the end its all about delivering on what I say I am going to, and giving them the best possible outcome.
