Hello, I’m Donna, and I was born a graphic designer! As the owner and creative director of Design Capital, I love creating design solutions that visually communicates and connects businesses with their customers. My passion is working collaboratively with businesses who do not have an in-house graphic designer, designing marketing materials that will elevate their business brand to stand out. Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

The best most favourite thing was a few years ago I got asked to do some teaching at CIT in Canberra. I loved it! loved hanging out and inspiring all the young and super talented designers coming through. To share my passion and knowledge with them was so rewarding.

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

Coffee...lots of it! admin, quoting, invoicing, researching, coaching, learning, designing, zoom meetings and phone calls.

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

I have a beautiful home office that is MY space, I love it, it's inspiring and calming, and I love that I can close the door at the end of the day.

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

I'm very much a people person, I love talking to people and learning more about them. I make people feel comfortable, I'm warm and friendly.

What are the tools of your trade?

My iMac...of course, I also have a macbook pro for when I'm away from home. And of course the full Adobe CC. Oh, and my Wacom, can't live without it!

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

Yes, I have a few people that I collaborate with depending on the needs of the client. I have an illustrator that I would usually pay and on-charge to the client. I have a few copywriters that I would refer to and a couple of web designers that I refer to also.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

I think as a freelancer there is a misconception that we are always working! I set my own hours, I don't work weekends and I don't work nights. I treat my business like a real job...go to work - work hard and then come home and BE home! It took me a long time to get that balance right!
