Hari Kotrotsios

I provide editing, copywriting, research and analysis support for a broad range of organisations, including not for profits and local government.

I’ve been working as a freelance communications professional since 2010 and previously worked as a newspaper journalist and sub editor on regional and suburban newspapers for five years.

My journalism background has provided me with the ability to research diverse topics across various industries to produce clear and concise content for media releases, newsletters, annual reports and business documents.

This broad experience across a variety of projects and industries allows me to quickly adapt to any new work environment and acquire a sound understanding of an organisation’s culture and operations.

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

Enjoying the flexibility of working my own hours and the opportunities of being involved in diverse projects.

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

I’m a night owl so generally work late, which means I’m available to work out of usual business hours to ensure I meet project deadlines. The only typical parts of my week are morning walks on the beach followed by fresh home-brewed coffee.

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

A home-based office with a window view of the garden, a desktop computer and two screens, and a laptop when I’m out on the road.

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

Attention to detail and accuracy.

What are the tools of your trade?

Australian Style Manual for authors, editors and printers. Macquarie Dictionary.

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

I work directly with organisations/businesses, which requires me to liaise with both internal (Board members, branch members, graphic designers) and external stakeholders (members, graphic designers, web designers).

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

Clarify project expectations and outcomes, and agreed timelines.
