Joel Eade Design

I started my journey into web design, like a lot of people, by designing a website for my band. I enjoyed it so much I kept doing it as a hobby while doing my "real" job in printing. A series of fortunate events gave me the chance to start Joel Eade Design as my full-time job. I'm an active member of the Melbourne WordPress community and love learning new tips & tricks.

Q & A

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

What’s the best thing to happen in your freelancing career to date? Getting the opportunity to work with a previous client on a government website with a 10 day deadline, two weeks after our twin girls came into the world. Nothing like a little pressure to make you produce great work.

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

I work four days and five nights a week. I spend time with my three kids on Thursdays at the moment, taking full advantage of the freelancing lifestyle.

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

I have a home office that overlooks our outdoor area and backyard. I love watching the kids run around out there on a sunny day.

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

Nothing really. I'm an approachable person with a good eye for design, pretty good at problem solving and generous with my time. I'd expect other freelancers are much the same.

What are the tools of your trade?

A MacBook Pro, Nespresso machine and WordPress.

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

Occasionally I'll work on projects with other designers and developers. The process is always different but generally communications and workflow is always remote.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

Put aside enough money for BAS & tax! Urgh.
