Justine Nancarrow

I am a communications and marketing professional who has been working across the corporate, consumer brand and nonprofit industries for over a decade. My experience covers public relations and media, digital strategy and creative execution and corporate communications. I have both professional experience and a strong personal interest in creative writing and supporting individuals and organisations to enhance their customer and supporter relationships via effective digital engagement strategy and execution. I've recently moved from New York after six years living and working in the city, back to my home city Melbourne and I'm offering my services on a freelance basis.

Q & A

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

Spending two months in Sierra Leone working for Partners In Health, a social justice organisation focused on bringing healthcare to the poorest and most remote parts of the world.

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

It's action packed and varied. I'm accustomed to working across multiple projects and to fast deadlines, in between calls and in person meetings.

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

I'm as productive in an office as I am working from home and I typically combine the two. In the office I like to collaborate frequently and bounce ideas of people. I'm often pulled from one area of focus to another in any given day as I'm used to and enjoy the fast paced energy of agency life but I also work effectively on my own and flourish when I can get quiet time away to focus on a project.

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

I have over a decade of nonprofit marketing, communications fundraising experience but started my career in the brand and retail industry to my skills have been built from two different sectors and I like to bring learnings from each.

What are the tools of your trade?

My iPhone, my Mac and a blank notepad to write in when I have random ideas and need to release my creative energy through writing.

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

Yes! In New York I worked with teams across multiple offices, states, countries and time zones so we made good use of conference calls and collaboration tools like Slack. I also facilitated many strategic meetings and brainstorms and led many presentations remotely/with remote participants. In my freelance work I often use the same tools to communicate and collaborate.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

Time management and spacing projects in the most effective and efficient way.
