Katie Leupin

KDL Virtual

Hey there! My name is Katie Leupin and I am the face behind KDL Virtual, a business designed to offer innovative, efficient and bespoke virtual assistant services tailored to the legal profession.

I'm based on the beautiful northern beaches area of Sydney where I live with my husband and my baby son Tobi.

With over 11 years experience providing executive assistance and legal secretarial support, I have the relevant skills, experience and passion to help legal professionals redesign their traditional support structure and move to a more innovative, efficient and flexible solution.

I love supporting experts within the legal profession and have had the pleasure of working closely with senior barristers, law firm partners and company and government executives which has given me exposure to many areas of law, styles of management and ways of working. With all this experience comes versatility, adaptability, discretion and confidentiality, which I channel into providing high quality virtual legal assistance.

A few of the great benefits for the legal professional partnering with me include receiving as much or as little support as needed based on varying work level and schedule; avoidance of employee entitlements such as sick leave, annual leave, payroll tax and superannuation and a truly agile and flexible legal support solution in times of extra need (e.g. coverage of annual leave, sick leave and additional support during busy periods).

If you'd like to learn more about how a virtual legal assistant can take the administrative burden out of your hands so that you can focus on what you do best, please do get in touch and I’d love to have that discussion with you!

Q & A

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

Finding the courage to launch my own business, KDL Virtual. I love supporting the legal industry but I also love my new found joy of being a mum. Now I get to combine both of these loves without sacrifice and I'm so excited to be in that position.

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

My day begins early. I love to start off by checking out what my legal connections are up to on LinkedIn and Instagram as well as keeping up to date with the latest news and developments in the legal scene. Then onto the rest of the day which might include managing multiple coffees, wrangling a small child and my client work such as organising meetings, travel arrangements, document collation and generally streamlining administrative processes.

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

I live on Sydney's beautiful northern beaches and am privileged to work from my home office. I have a never ending supply of coffee, complete control over the temperature and the ability to pop down to the beach for a change of scenery when required. In the world of legal support, it doesn't get much better than that!

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

My offering is unique in that there are very few highly skilled legal assistants leaving the safety and stability of the law firm environment to provide tailored virtual support solutions. I am passionate about innovation in the legal industry and am excited that I can be apart of that.

What are the tools of your trade?

Some of the tools that I use on a daily basis include the latest suite of Office365 Apps, Adobe, Box and Dropbox for file sharing and various legal practice management systems made available by the client.

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

Not at this stage but I am absolutely open to pursing opportunities for collaboration.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

You have to be your own biggest fan. Don't give in to doubt and have believe in yourself and what you represent. It's so easy to let slow progress or the negative opinions of others put a pause on your progress. It's good to remember that not everyone can be on the same wavelength so you have to surround yourself with like minded individuals who are positive and encouraging.
