Hello there!

My name is Kit Morris. I am an experienced marketing and communications professional based in Perth, Western Australia. I have worked in a full time capacity in marketing and communications teams for a diverse range of industries including higher education, banking and financial and the not-for-profit sector.

I am a former journalist who worked primarily in radio, writing news package presentations comprising of multiple individual stories for community radio stations in the Perth metropolitan region.

Currently, I work as a Marketing and Communications Specialist for Teachers Mutual Bank, which primarily involves the managing, developing and implementing of brand marketing and communications plans, strategies, initiatives and campaigns.

Why do I love to get wordy? Well I have always loved writing, since I was first able to pick up a pencil and scribble on a page. I love the fact that creating a well constructed piece of copy or marketing collateral can convey an array of nuances and meanings, while connecting with an intended audience of people who are engaged and persuaded by the ideas you write in black and white.

I love working with people and collaborating on projects with like-minded individuals. Embarking on a new adventure into the territory of freelance work will give me new opportunities to work with people who have interesting businesses, unique life stories and a real passion for what they do!

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

Writing copy for a website with an international presence When I worked at Curtin University I wrote web copy, SEO, selected image assets and conducted quality assurance/testing for a relaunched university-wide website of over 600 pages!

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

At this stage, it is two days from home and 3 days in the office. My typical work week is fluid, fun and never the same twice!

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

Having the freedom to work on the go is fantastic. My current full-time job encourages a work environment where I can tap on a keyboard at my office desk or grab a laptop and sit in the sunshine with a flat white and immerse myself in the world of work!

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

I have worked across multiple brands with different writing styles for various target audiences. As a result I am able to switch my tone of voice depending on who I am writing for. My journalistic background has equipped me with next-to-none research skills which give me a clear understanding of a client's brand.

What are the tools of your trade?

Good old fashioned Microsoft Word, a notepad, a laptop, Yoast SEO, Hootsuite/Sprout Social, Various Content Mangement Systems.

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

Yes I do - verbal communication is sometimes just as important as the writing. It is important to set expectations to ensure everyone is on the same page. When collaborating and receiving feedback it is vital to be open and transparent about everything.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

Sometimes, in terms of written content, less is more!
