Liz Doherty

Liz Doherty Creative + Strategy

With over 26 years in advertising under my belt (sequined floral belt that is), I’ve worked on everything from fashion to fast cars and all in a stunning pair of heels. After a lifetime of big agency experience and brands like Myer and Priceline behind me I’ve also run my own boutique agency with a digital focus leading brand campaigns for SkyBus, Coolaroo, Salt Therapy Franchise Salts of the Earth, Red 23 and Luus Industries. I always know the new black. And the new red. And pink for that matter. I firmly believe that red is black for glamourous people. I live and breath brands. My strength lies in understanding you can’t build a great brand without first building a solid relationship, both with the client and customer alike. Whether it’s a new financial platform, a tech start-up or a retail giant I’m always looking for innovative brand solutions. A passionate facilitator of strategic planning and creative direction, I consult closely with clients to understand the real business problem, then find the integrated solution be it game changing creative or technical innovation. A brand ambassador at heart I have a deep and rounded understanding of the ever-changing communication landscape, digital, mobile, social media, CRM, packaging, print, TVCs, photography, magazine ads (remember those?), POS, media strategy and sales promotion.

Q & A

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

Pitching to a large tier 2 client who had already appointed an agency, and being given the entire account on the spot. We've been together almost 3 years now.

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

Client meetings, new campaign development, radio recordings, designing, running workshops, writing strategies. Sitting on a not for profit board promoting women in IT.

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

Creative co-working space set up by me in 2016, only a 2.5 song walk from my home. Quirkily renovated to within an inch of it's life. Too much is never enough.

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

Depth of experience. Have successfully transitioned from old school art director pen in hand, to mac toting, fully responsive digital raconteur.

What are the tools of your trade?

Pen, Paper, Mac, Adobe CS, Sketch, wine glass and lots of visits to wherever the products I'm advertising are sold/used/found.

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

Keen collaborator. One of the greatest things I've learnt in advertising is when to lead, and how to follow. 26 years will do that. Have an inner circle of creative mavericks on hand as needed.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

Do good work, with great people and have time for a life (philosophy from the founders of an agency I worked at for many years, and one I still follow today). Give as much to your mentors as they give to you.
