Priscilla Carswell

My real love affair with the written word began early in life when I received a regional award for my role as Editor / Journalist of my local school newspaper. My ability to write succinct, influencing and audience appropriate copy served me well in my fifteen-year career as a global Management Consultant. Where days were spent interviewing, facilitating and researching. And nights were spent turning this information into quality communications, from white papers, reports, and presentations, to newsletters, blog posts and thousands (did I mention thousands) of emails! This career led me to see the world, experience life inside Fortune 100 companies to factory floors, and meet some extraordinary people from all walks of life. However, with a desire to return to a more simpler life in the hinterlands and to follow my passion for writing, I broke free form the corporate shackles and now work as a freelance copywriter and content creator. I believe in the power of stories to inform, inspire and ignite passions. Creating authentic content that takes away the sales pitch and replaces it with substance. My industry experience features professional and financial services, government, the arts, airlines and travel, health and wellness, real-estate, start-ups, and socially conscious/ environmentally-friendly businesses. I work best in creating content strategies, blogs, articles, newsletters, websites, employee communications, social media content, video storyboards, and scripts. To me, a successful partnership with my clients is based on three simple things. We both share a common commitment to work mindfully, with an open heart and an eye on ethics. When I’m not creating beautiful content, you will find me with sand between my toes, coffee in one hand, camera in the other and muddling my way through the adventures of motherhood!

Q & A

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

I am fortunate to have had many career highlights. However, I think the best is that I now get to wake up every day and do what I love, from wherever the world may take me!

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

Coffee Writing words Taking pictures Running after a toddler Sun, sand, surf Be Happy Repeat!

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

I create all of my content from my cottage overlooking the lush Byron Bay Hinterlands. A couple of times a week you will find me collaborating with others on-location or within our co-sharing office space.

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

I think my background in Management Consulting provides me with a unique view of the world. I have that rare ability to see through BS and uncover that kernel of truth that defines exactly what makes a product or service great. I am then equally adept at putting the parts together and all too easily get excited by crafting a killer message or bringing a creative idea to life.

What are the tools of your trade?

Words and pictures, a sprinkle of creativity, laptop and phone… and lots of coffee!

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

Yes! I love to collaborate with brands to help them tell their story. I also love to collaborate with other creatives.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

Reputation is everything! And temperament, discipline and commitment are just as important as talent.
