I'm a small town girl, residing in Whyalla SA. I've grown my freelance business from humble beginnings, whilst raising two small humans. I love the process of understanding a clients communication needs & being able to solve those problems through visual marketing, both on & offline. I'd love to collaborate with other creatives & creative start-ups. I'm looking to really build on my illustration & content creation skills & would love to learn more about marketing. 🙂

Q & A

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

Working alongside Whyalla City Council, Uni SA & GFG Alliance on various projects has been a major highlight. They are big employers in my hometown so building my own small brand enough to solely secure & maintain them as clients for a number of years, on an array of projects gives me a huge sense of pride.

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

I work from home. Majority of my work is done between Adobe illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom & Photoshop. I do a lot of my client proofing via email, dropbox & proofing galleries. I manage my own websites, email marketing & social media platforms. I'll meet my clients in their offices or out at a local cafe, but I love the lack of boundaries that the online world has created. I photograph products at home, portraits on location. I order all my printing online & drop-ship or personally deliver the product. My work scope is very diverse & can range from a logo design, print flyer, social media images to divi wordpress websites & birth/family portraiture. My primary focus is improving the perceptions of businesses or events through visual communication.

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

Home based HQ

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

The ability to create & execute with limited resources. Solid software & technical ability. Eagerness to learn & grow my skill base.

What are the tools of your trade?

Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. Wacom Intuos Pro 5, Nikon

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

I partner with my fiance on web design. I'm a primarily a stylist. I'll help to create the overall feel of a website, with colour schemes/fonts & imagery. We'll decide functionality together & work collectively to educate clients on the importance of simple, user friendly platforms, visually influenced perceptions & raising the bar with social media & creative marketing.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

I've made lots of mistakes along the way, which is part & parcel with growing a freelance biz on your own, but my biggest lesson was taking on my first branding project without any understanding the trade print pricing process & not having a full, confident handle on the job. I undercharged, didn't really know enough about branding to create a brand, had no boundaries & spent a really long time correcting the resulting word templates I allowed to happen (& later convincing the client to let me take back control with InDesign files & alterations). I lost a lot of money initially from my own inexperience. 6 years on, they are still a regular client & I genuinely gained so much from that first job.
