Sophie Ridgeway Communications

Hello, I'm Sophie – a skilled freelance communicator, public relations professional and writer based in Perth, Western Australia.

As the proud owner of Sophie Ridgeway Communications, I work directly with a select number of valued clients who can expect nothing less than complete dedication and bespoke advice from me. I truly care about the work I do and the results I deliver to my clients. My business is my reputation and ultimately, your success is my success.

With comprehensive experience in both employee communications and public relations, I help businesses of all sizes successfully communicate with and engage their target audiences, whether they are internal, external or both. My professional experience encompasses almost a decade at iconic Western Australian organisations both in consultancy and in-house capacities, including HBF Health, Crown Resorts and Professional Public Relations (PPR), amongst others.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication) majoring in public relations and journalism. This unique knowledge of both sides of the ‘publicity coin’ means I understand what journalists consider newsworthy and how best to secure positive media coverage for my clients.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to communications, because no two companies are the same, so I pride myself on delivering tailored strategies aligned with my clients’ individual goals.

I am genuinely passionate about effectively communicating my clients’ stories and would love for yours to be next.

I welcome the opportunity to chat to you about your business and assist with your communications needs – please do get in touch!

Q & A

Whats the best thing to happen to you in your career to date?

I've had the pleasure of spending almost a decade in the PR and communications industry, working with a variety of clients both in consultancy and in-house capacities. But I'd have to say the most exciting thing has been launching my own freelance business, Sophie Ridgeway Communications! Taking that leap of faith is both terrifying and exhilarating, and I look forward to what the future holds.

What does a typical work week look like for you?:

There is no typical work week in the freelance world! The best part about being freelance is the freedom to work from wherever (provided it has a good internet connection, of course) and catching up with clients over coffee (or wine) to discuss all things communication.

Describe your working environment in a few sentences..

I am usually based out of my home office which is a work-in-progress at the moment! If I'm ever feeling uninspired, I love to take advantage of this 'laptop lifestyle' by venturing out and discovering new cafes to work from.

What sets you apart from other freelancers in your industry?

I believe my skills in both internal and external communications set me apart from the crowd. It's rare to find someone with plenty of experience in both of these areas, so I'm thrilled to offer these services to my clients whether they want one or both!

What are the tools of your trade?

I can't live without my MacBook Pro! I also use software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office suite, and good ol' pen and paper, of course. Nothing beats filling out a Kikki K to-do list!

Do you collaborate with others? If yes, how does that works?

I love to collaborate with others if a project expands outside my scope of skills. I'm always open to building relationships with other freelancers and working together to get the best outcome for our clients.

Whats been the biggest freelancing lesson to date?

Be comfortable being uncomfortable! As a freelancer, YOU are your brand so you need to sell yourself (something that I'm slowly becoming more accustomed to). I've learnt that it's important to always back yourself and put yourself out there. Confidence is key!
